Rape ArrestA 58-year-old Jackson man is accused of raping a three-year-old girl. He faces some very disturbing and serious charges.
Robert Stewart faces two counts of sexual battery and one count of gratification of lust. Investigators aren’t giving many details about the alleged abuse, but according to court documents, it happened sometime between July and August. Stewart is accused of penetrating the three-year-old and forced her to touch his private part.
The community surrounding his residence on Ritchey Drive is vibrant and full of life. People spend time outside. Children play in parks.
But many were stunned to learn Stewart is accused of raping a three year old.
Larry Nichols, who works in the area, has five children between the ages of 14 and 27.
“That’s just outrageous for any grown man to do that to a child,“ he said. “I feel like you have to throw the book at him.“
Stewart’s wife wouldn’t comment about the charges, but did say her family is hiring a lawyer. Many residents who know the accused refused to talk on camera. Some who would talk, didn’t want their identity revealed.
“I think it’s a shame,“ said one man, who has two young children. “I think people need to…watch their kids a little closer.“
Many who know Stewart say he is friendly, but quiet. For now, he’ll spend his time behind bars. He’s being held at the Hinds County Detention Center.
Experts say adults who molest children share some common characteristics and behaviors. According to Minnesota’s Department of Corrections, adult child molesters are usually married. In many cases, these molesters have few adult friends, and some talk with children, treating them as adults to create a closer bond.

Just curious, but are we certain this man is guilty? Is there evidence? Was a rape kit done? If not, we are quick to judge. If evidence is present, and he is guilty, may his punishment be severe in taking the innocence of a child. However, if he is not guilty, this crime will carry serious, if not deadly consequences, of which I would hate to sentence him to without knowing.
One simply cannot imagine what is in the mind of someone who would do such a thing. I am so very sorry for this little child whose life will never be like it should have been. I pray for God to help her. We have got to watch our children closer! Why did it take so long to do something about this?? Please, God, help us, for we have so much evil among us!!!1
Put him in the general prison population…The problem will go away.
Robert Stewart is a SORRY man. There is nothing about that three year old child that should have turned him on, and for his wife to say she is hiring a lawyer she is crazy to. If my husband did something like that he would rot in jail. I would not waste one dime on trying to get him out. I think that all sex offenders need to be castrated on there first offense to cut down on so much crime. Robert Stewart will understand how that three year old felt once he gets to Parchment with the prisoners.
