Madison County Murder Suicide
Canton Deadly Shooting
Canton Deadly ShootingA Canton father loses one daughter in a senseless shooting and has another fighting for her life. Investigators say it’s a case of love gone bad.
27-year-old Tina Starks and her sister, 31-year-old Latara Starks were shot at their apartment. Tina was rushed to U.M.C., but the hospital is not releasing any information about her. Latara was shot once in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Madison County’s Sheriff Toby Trowbridge says 46-year-old Grover Anderson shot the sisters, then killed himself. Anderson was Tina’s estranged boyfriend.
Deputies say Anderson shot the women around 12:30a.m. on Wednesday at Canton’s Camden Park Apartments. Anderson then took off and authorities chased him more than 30-miles through Yazoo County into Bentonia.
Deputies say Anderson started jerking in his truck, then they noticed the back door glass was shattered. He’d shot himself in the head.
The sisters lived together with their children at the apartment complex. Management wouldn’t speak on the record, but most believe it was an isolated incident and no one else was in danger.
“All I could think about was my grand-kids, especially the one who got killed, her daughter,“ said Arkie Starks, the victims’ father. “She already don’t have no daddy….I’m the only daddy they got.“
Starks says he regrets not learning more about the man police say killed his daughter and has now caused such pain and suffering.
“I thought i was dreaming, really, but when I got over there, it wasn’t no dream,“ said Starks. “It was just like a nightmare.“
Now, all he can do is pray for the rest of his family.
He says his daughters moved to Camden Park to get away from Anderson, but Martha Davis, whose mother lives there, says she’s worried about security at the complex.
“The gate’s open right now,“ she said. “There have been malfunctions with the gate closing, so hopefully they will go on since this has happened to get that working.“
Davis says she knows the pain and suffering the Starks family is going through. She says she lost her 11-year-old son several years ago.
