Jackson Student Brings Gun On Campus
One concerned parent says the school needs to make changes because of this incident.Police arrest a Jackson high school student for bringing a gun to school.
There was no incident or altercation, and the school did not go into a lockdown.
Officers arrested the teen Thursday morning at Jim Hill High School on Fortune Street.
Authorities plan to charge 18-year-old Antjuan Taylor with possessing a firearm on school grounds
Faculty and staff members at the school got an anonymous tip that Taylor was carrying a 3-80 automatic gun.
They found the gun in his book bag.
The teen told police and administrators he found the gun on the ground.
“Parents are gonna have to get better control of their children. That’s just the bottom line,“ said Bridgett Livingston, a concerned parent.
Livingston picked up her daughter and nephew early from school because of the incident.
“Usually they stay after school for cheerleader practice, but we gonna let them come on cause you never know what’s going on,“ said Livingston.
Still, she says she would never pull them out of Jim Hill High School.
“I don’t feel they were in any harm or danger cause I know they have God, so I don’t have to worry about that,“ said Livingston. “I hope this one incident doesn’t give the school a bad name because it’s not a bad school.“
The JPS Assistant Superintendent of High Schools tells us Jim Hill has metal detectors only at the front doors of the building.
They’re now looking into adding them at other entrances.
