Jackson Municipal Judge Finds Noose In Shed
The judge says he's still in shock.
A Jackson Municipal Judge is worried for his safety following a disturbing find in his shed.
Someone hung a noose there.
Judge Ali Shamsiddeen says he found it strung from a beam at his Byram home Sunday afternoon while feeding his horses.
The FBI, Jackson Police and Hinds County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating.
The judge says the FBIi now has the noose and they’re trying to determine if it was a hate crime.
“I’m not taking that as a prank,“ said Judge Shamsiddeen.
Instead, he says this was an act of hate.
“i’m an african american and I understand our legacy here in Mississippi,“ said Judge Shamsiddeen. “I understand the impact a noose that is put in a position as an african american, I’m suppose to see it, but not only that…it’s on my private property.“
Still, he says whatever the meaning behind the noose…he’s standing his ground.
“Whatever that intimidation factor was meant to be it didn’t work,“ said Judge Shamsiddeen. “If it was meant that I was suppose to move…it’s not working. If it’s suppose to mean I’m not suppose to be a judge or I’m scared now to make rulings…it’s not working. I certainly can’t change the fact that I’m an african american man, so we’re not even going there.“
The judge says he now plans on installing surveillance cameras around his home.
