Interstate 55 Remains Closed After Turck Overturns

Earlier today, an 18-wheeler overturned on I-55 south between Lakeland Drive and Woodrow Wilson near the Lakeland Drive overpass spilling fuel onto the interstate. Motorists traveling on I-55 south are urged to take an alternate route. Possible routes motorists can take to avoid the area are Highway 51, State Street, and Northside Drive.
It happened shortly before 4:00 a.m. Thursday (3/11) morning.
The driver was injured during the accident.
Mississippi Department of Transportation crews and Jackson Police responded to the scene.
The Department of Environmental Quality are on the scene at this time. 
As of 9:09 a.m. the interstate is expected to remain closed for approximately five hours to allow crews to clean up the spill and remove the truck from the highway.
