Hinds County Sheriffs Deputies are still investigating after a young girl was hit and killed when she was run over by a truck while on her bicycle.
The incident happened at 1058 Cemetery Road in Edwards.
Hinds County investigators say 11-year-old Iesha Wright was hit Wednesday night.
She was trapped by the truck…once they got her out she was taken to Region Medical Center where she later died.
Investigators say 18-year-old Derrick Sims of Edwards was driving the truck involved, and did not have license.
They also tell us alcohol and drugs were not factors.
Accident reconstruction investigators are working the case.
Once they’re finished, authorities will determine whether Sims will face criminal charges.
“It’s like a bad dream,“ said Donzell Wright, Iesha’s older brother.
“You see other people have the same tragedy happen to them, but you really don’t know it till it’s actually hits home to you,“ said Wright. “That’s when you don’t realize it can happen to me. It can happen to anybody.“
Wright is still devastated.
He can’t believe his little sister was killed while riding her bike, but he says what’s harder, his friend was driving the truck that hit her.
“Nobody wanted to get in the car that day and just say…‘I’m gonna take a life’. He didn’t mean it. Nobody meant to do it. It’s an accident,“ said Wright.
Wright says he’ll never forget the times he shared with his little sister.
“God gave us a good 11 years of her.“

My heartfelt condolences goes out to the Wright family at their time of bereavement.  I know words are just words, but look to the Lord for strength during this time.
