Grand Jury could review evidence in Irby crash...
District attorney says the case is not getting special treatmentA Hinds County grand jury could soon review evidence in a deadly crash that killed two doctors and seriously injured a prominent Jackson couple.
District Attorney Robert Smith says his office has received the completed file on the case from Jackson Police.
And he says his office is preparing evidence to present to a grand jury in the near future.
But Smith wouldn’t say whether the Irby case will be reviewed by the grand jury that meets next month.
Dr. Lisa Dedousis and her fiance Dr. Daniel Mark Pogue died when their pick-up exploded on impact.
Pogue was a third-year resident at UMC. Delouses was a first-year resident in New Jersey.
The couple got engaged in December.
Stuart Irby was critically injured in the crash. He spent time at UMC, but now he is no longer there.
Toxicology and alcohol reports were done on Karen Irby, but police won’t release the results.
The toxicology will show if Irby had drugs in her system.
The February crash happened in front of Sam Cain’s home on Old Canton Road, where he says there have six wrecks since he moved there in 1992.
“The fire was everywhere, like it was 20 feet high,” he said.
Cain is puzzled as to why no one has yet been arrested or charged in the case.
“I don’t really know what they are waiting on.”
“This is being done fairly quickly,” says District Attorney Robert Smith.
He says despite the Irbys’ connection to the crash, this case is not getting special treatment.
“Because of the public interest in this case, here’s this belief, but there is no basis for that, it’s just like any other case,” Smith said
