Published: November 13, 2009
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) - There’s been a run on garlic today in the markets of Serbia’s capital, Belgrade. Garlic has long been regarded as a good luck charm in Serbia and many consider it an effective treatment for a range of medical ailments from indigestion to respiratory problems. In this case, Serbs are stocking up to ward off swine flu. Serbia has been hit with a surge of swine flu cases in the past two weeks and has ordered 3 million vaccine doses. Health officials are urging people not to take garlic’s health benefits so seriously. They’re recommending people stick with conventional precautions, such as washing hands, wearing face masks and getting vaccinated.

It’s a virus, not a vampire. Stick to reality and don’t play with H1N1. Get vaccinated and save yourself a lot of potential trouble.
