Free Swine Flu Vaccines

Beginning Monday, the swine flu vaccine will be available at all county health department clinics in the state and at some schools.
The state’s supply is very limited so only those in priority groups are encouraged to get the first batch of the vaccines.
State health leaders have more than 200,000 doses of the nasal mist and injectable vaccine ready to go.
The priority groups are pregnant women, children between the ages of six months and four-years-old, as well as infant caregivers.
These groups are at the highest risk of suffering complications from the swine flu.
The vaccine is free at all county health departments, but health leaders need Mississippians to be patient.
“This is going to be a massive effort that’s going take some time,“ said Dr. Mary Currier. “We’re sending it out to providers across the state, and we haven’t got it everywhere that wants vaccine. We have over 1,000 providers that want the vaccine. We’re not anywhere close to filling all those orders.“
Doctor Currier says after the priority groups get their vaccine, that’s when they’ll be available to the public. Until then, she suggests folks continue good hand washing, stay home if you’re sick, cough in your sleeve and get a seasonal flu shot in the meantime.
