Copiah County Boy Dies In House Fire
Deadly House Fire Kills 8-Year-Old Boy
Deadly House Fire Kills 8-Year-Old BoyA Copiah County father is grieving the sudden death of his son in a weekend house fire.
What makes it even more painful for the father is that the deadly house fire was sparked by one of his children.
Investigators say eight year-old Bobby Melton died in the blaze.
His six year-old sister Britney Melton and their grandmother, 56 year-old Geneva Hutson, were both badly burned.
They were flown to a Georgia burn center for treatment.
Officials say the Meltons’ four year old brother was playing with matches in their home in the Georgetown community when he set the bed on fire. The room was damaged by the fire.
Bobby Melton says little Bobby loved God more than anything else.
“It ain’t a soul in this world by my heart no better than loved God,” he said.
As the fire raged through their home, Melton believes his 8 year-old son fought as hard as he could to escape the smoke and flames.
“I can tell you he tried, and my little girl tried to get him out.”
Melton’s mother, Geneva Hutson, also tried to pull the child to safety.
“And she fought as much as she could, but she had to save herself too,” Melton said.
As sad as he is about the tragedy that took his son’s life, Melton believes Bobby is now in a better place.
His four year-old son who started the deadly fire was no injured.
