Clinton Church Distributes Low Cost Food

A group of metro area-churches are gearing up for their monthly distribution of discounted food to struggling families.
The food items are collected by a national non-profit church group known as Angel Food Ministries.
This month’s food pick-up is scheduled for next weekend at Clinton’s Dayspring Community Church, which organizes and hosts the event for the Jackson area.
Dacia Amis is the Angel Food coordinator for Dayspring.
She says buying food at a discounted price helps seniors on a fixed income make ends meet.
“And we also have a lot of young families or single mothers with children who really need to watch every dime,” she says.
Dayspring Associate Pastor Jim Joyce says the box of food is worth $65 to $80 but through Angel Food you pay only $30.
The food program isn’t limited to struggling families or the unemployed who may have little money to spend.
“It’s for anybody who values their dollar if you can save money on food you will have more money to spend elsewhere,” Amis says.

With the economic situation we have today, it is really important to have discounted foods so that people will be able to sustain other basic needs. I just hope that this will continue. Anybody with an interest in bakery related media might be interested in getting a copy of the new coffee table book called Cake Wrecks. Cake Wrecks started life as a blog, and has now graduated into a full blown coffee table book, dedicated to cakes gone wrong, and it was recently highlighted by the New York Times. The entries range to typos in spelling, animal themed cakes gone horribly awry and the outright inappropriate unintentionally unleashed into the world via a frosted pastry. Most of the cakes featured are innocuous enough, but highly amusing. One wonders what the people who used faxless payday loans for a custom cake thought if they saw their order in Cake Wrecks.
