Celebrating The Fourth
Hundreds head to Canton to watch dozens of hot air balloons take the sky. Many in Jackson are celebrating the Fourth of July with music, fireworks and hot air balloons.
Saturday was the second night for “Mississippi’s Championship Hot Air Balloon Festival”.
Hundreds came out for the food and fun—-and even skydivers.
There was also a hot air balloon glow and fireworks show.
“Last year, we came out here with our cousins and had a blast,“said Katelynn Bowman.
“We come out here for the last 3, 4 years and it’s just a lot of fun for the kids. We love the balloons,“ said Shelia Horton.
“I’ve never been around the big balloons, and I just wanted to see what it’s like. I’ve never been around them up close, and thought it’d be neat to watch them,“ said Kelly Simmons.
And everyone braved the scorching heat.
“At least there’s a little breeze every once and awhile, but it’s pretty bad,“ said Horton.
“This will be our second year, but we’re more prepared than last year,“ said Bowman. “Last year, we all came in jeans and stuff and were burning up hot, so this year we came prepared.“
Still, many say watching these hot air balloons take to the sky is the best way they could spend their Fourth of July.
“That’s the greatest thing is to spend time with your family and this is a good event,“ said Horton. “Don’t have to worry about kids running around. It’s an all around good family time.“
