Investigators make an arrest in the murder of a former top Vicksburg police officer, found shot and killed in his car more than a year ago.
58-year old Tyler Smith was arraigned on capital murder charges in his initial court appearance Monday.
Authorities arrested Smith Friday for the July 2008 murder of Walter Cole.
The 75 year old was a retired Vicksburg assistant police chief.
Cole’s Family expressed relief at Smith’s arrest, 15 months after the crime.
“Right now I feel happy over everything,” says Willie
    Jordan, his 87 year-old uncle.
“I thank the police department of Vicksburg,” he added.
Jordan, who’s 87, fought back tears as he recalled the day he discovered Cole’s body in his car.
After months of many sleepless nights, Cole’s family says they can finally rest easily knowing his alleged killer is behind bars.
