Gov. Schwarzenegger Takes Aim at Paparazzi

The new law makes it easier to sue media outlets that use photos that invade celebrities’ privacy.
This actually is an amendment to a law that’s been on the books in California for ten years which allows fines against paparazzi who illegally or offensively take photos or recordings.
The new amendment, which goes into effect in January, allows lawsuits against media outlets that pay for and make first use of material they know was improperly obtained.
It’s no surprise to hear that some tabloid magazines, TV shows and Internet sites will pay millions for celebrity material. Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn’t have a warm spot in his heart for the paps.
In 1997 paparazzi had boxed-in Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver as they drove their son to school.
The paps were found guilty of false imprisonment.
