(AP) - After a nightmarish downturn that was followed by a sales jolt linked to the Cash for Clunkers program, the auto industry saw stable sales last month.
Most automakers reported higher U.S. sales in October.
GM reported its first monthly sales increase in almost two years. Higher sales were also reported by Toyota, Ford and Nissan.
Hyundai said its sales jumped 49 percent, boosted by its fuel-efficient Elantra sedan. Japanese automaker Subaru had a 41-percent surge, helped by strong sales in its Outback and Forester models.
