(AP) - President Barack Obama didn’t exactly win over the nation’s largest group of doctors with a personal appearance, but they’re leaving the door open to a key part of his health overhaul.
The American Medical Association meeting began as a potential obstacle to Obama’s plans, but the group ended by leaving open the possibility of a public health insurance plan to compete with private insurers.
While the Obama administration would have preferred a strong endorsement, the vote is still a victory of sorts for the White House. The AMA will continue to be a player in the health-care reform efforts.
