Free Clinic Sees New Clients

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) One Alabama clinic says the recession is bringing unlikely clientele through its doors.

Shotsie Platt is executive director of the Community Free Clinic in Huntsville. She says the clinic usually serves the unemployed, the homeless, the long-term down-and-out folks who lack health insurance.

But recently she started seeing real estate agents who haven't sold houses in months, and a rash of single mothers.

To help out, members of the current Leadership Huntsville/Madison County class are holding a supply drive Nov. 16 through 21.

Office supplies, as well as over-the-counter medicines, are being collected at drop-off points throughout town, and then they'll be delivered to the clinic, which sees up to 400 patients a month.
