GARY, Indiana (AP) - Back in 2003, Michael Jackson visited his
hometown of Gary, Indiana - and announced plans for a performing
arts center. Jackson is no longer with us but the promise is being
revived - this time, by Jackson's father. Joe Jackson and officials
of Gary have announced plans to go ahead the arts center. Residents
are excited about the project but wary because it isn't the first
time such ambitious plans have been announced, but not happen. Gary
Mayor Rudy Clay knows people have heard the promises before - and
says: "Now is the time. We've got to seize the moment." Work on
the $300 million museum and performing arts center could begin as
early as next her.
